NATO chief stresses need to 'fully implement' the sanctions agreed on Belarus

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said its members would work on cementing agreed sanctions against Belarus and consider further action, following the forced landing of the Ryanair flight carrying Roman Protasevich. 

"I think the most important thing now is to make sure that those sanctions that are agreed are fully implemented and I also know that other allies are looking into whether they can step up further," he said on a visit to London.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who hosted Stoltenberg, described the incident as an "appalling, outrageous... hijacking."

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said last week that criticism by other countries had "crossed red lines."
