The 'Platinum Jubilee' celebrations marking Queen Elizabeth's 70th year on the throne have come to a close, after four days of 'pomp and ceremony.'

Queen Elizabeth appeared on the famous Buckingham Palace balcony at the end of the day, to wave and accept the applause of the thousands of people who gathered outside the palace gates.

After the Jubilee bank holiday on Thursday, a Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral on Friday, and Saturday's 'Platinum Party at the Palace' which saw pop stars from around the UK and world perform outside Buckingham Palace in central London, Sunday's closing celebration was a huge 'pageant' which featured various famous Britons in a parade around London.

After several days of nice weather, it was perhaps inevitable that today's parade would see the return of grey clouds and inclement weather. That meant the final 'flypast' of the Red Arrows display team had to be cancelled.

Buses for each of the 7 decades the Queen has sat on the throne came down the Mall, the straight stretch of road leading to the Palace, and the Gold State Coach which the 26-year-old Queen rode to her coronation was seen again - this time with video screens showing her original journey placed in the windows.

Despite the Queen missing several events through what the Royal Family described as "discomfort" and "mobility issues," she made an appearance with her closest family on the world famous balcony that has witnessed so many Royal moments.

A series of 'Big Jubilee Lunches' were held across the UK before the parade, as part of an estimated 16,000 street parties. Another 600 such gatherings took place across the globe, including in Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, Japan and South Africa.

And in addition to the 'drone-corgi' that appeared in the London night sky during the Jubilee concert, there were reports of 'corgi races' being held across the nation.
