European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has explained some of the sanctions the EU has threatened to impose on Russia, if it invades Ukraine.
"We have prepared a robust and comprehensive package of financial and economic sanctions," von der Leyen told the Handeslblatt and Les Echos newspapers.
"Capping access to foreign capital, export controls, especially on technical goods," would all be included, she revealed.
The recently completed Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany is also in the bloc's sights. Von der Leyen said a decision on the line's operation would be dependent "on Russia's behavior."
In a similar announcement to that made by UK Foreign Minister Lizz Truss, von der Leyen put wealthy Russians with links to the Kremlin on notice.
"People close to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and oligarchs could of course be hit sensitively," she said.
