The ongoing economic crisis linked to rising costs, spiralling inflation, and concerns over energy supplies will impact the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

"The budget will be affected by inflation," said Tony Estanguet, the head of the Paris 2024 organizing committee.

July 26 marks two years to go until the next Summer Games get under way in the French capital.

A floating opening ceremony
One of the most ambitious ideas for the 2024 Olympics is to stage the opening ceremony on the River Seine.

The official event marking the start of the Games is normally held in a major stadium in the host city.

But the organizers of Paris 2024 say that the flag-bearing delegations from the participating countries will take part in the ceremony on a flotilla of boats on the river in the center of the French capital.

The sporting events will mostly take place in existing venues, with far fewer new arenas being constructed, as a way of keeping costs down but also fulfilling the aims of the organizers to have as many of the events in central Paris as possible.

There will be gold medals awarded right at the start of the Games on July 27, the day after the opening ceremony, with men's and women's cycling time trials running on the streets of Paris, while skateboarders flip and spin in Place de la Concorde, one of the capital's main squares.

While the vast majority of the events will take place in Paris, some sports will be played away from the capital.

The equestrian competitions will be relatively close, in the grounds of nearby Palace de Versailles, but the handball finals will be held in Lille, the sailing events will take place in the Mediterranean Sea off Marseille, and the surfing will be held in French Polynesia, home to some of the world's best waves, 15,500 km away from Paris.

The 32 sports will be played across 18 days of competition, from July 24 to August 11 2024.

The Paralympic Games in Paris follow two weeks after the Olympics, taking place from 28 August to September 8 2024.
