Stroll along the regenerated Battersea Power Station development on the banks of London's River Thames this winter, and you're in for a treat. This year's Light Festival is brightening up these cold and dark evenings with six stunning installations.

And there is a definite nod to Chinese New Year.

"It was completely intentional," said Carlin Fier, head of brand at Battersea Power Station Development Company and the curator of the free, outdoor event.

"We've had these wonderful digital Origami tigers on hold for about two years, waiting for the Year of the Tiger to launch them."

Made of recycled materials, including aluminum and barrisol, the tigers are brought to life by pulsating LED lights.

It is one of six light installations at London's newly regenerated Battersea Power Station complex on the River Thames.

"We have two pieces making their UK debut this year ... Antenna Sud by Michela Bonzi and Picto Sender Machine by Felipe Prada … a really great interactive piece that is really fun for family and kids," said Fier.

"We are very fortunate at Battersea Power Station to have such an amazing estate, so much land, that we are able to spread the pieces out, so they don't compete with one another, and they each have a special place of prominence within the wider picture," she said.

Angelo Bonello's Run Beyond is making its first London appearance. It's a piece that says, go on, take that New Year leap to where you want to be.

"I think this is a metaphor for all of us to run beyond and push our brains, our lives, our work to the limit," said the Italian artist.

A resident of three years, Jess Field, has seen the development transform into a vibrant riverside neighborhood and loves having the light festival on her doorstep.

"It is really lovely. It's really has brightened up the area. It brought a lot of people here to see it – it is nice because I have seen the Christmas lights have gone and this takes the Christmas spirit into January," she said.

The iconic chimneys of Battersea Power Station are bathed in red lighting for the Chinese New year.

The organizers hope to draw crowds to help generate the sense of community that has been central to reinvigorating this iconic site. And put Battersea Power Station back on the grid.
