CGTN

China has said it will take necessary measures to protect its territorial integrity ahead of a planned visit by an official from the Taiwan region's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities to Europe.

Czechia and Slovakia are set to host Joseph Wu and a business delegation from the island this week.

Under the one-China policy that both countries subscribed to in setting up diplomatic ties with Beijing, the government of the People's Republic of China is recognized as the only legal government of the whole country.

"There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told reporters. "We will take proper and necessary measures to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. No one should have illusions about this."

China issued a strong rebuke to  the speaker of the Czech parliament last year when he paid a visit to Taipei.
