The United Nations has designated 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers' Preservation. It is meant as a global moment of reflection as glaciers worldwide are melting, collapsing, and vanishing faster than ever before.

RAZOR's Reya El-Salahi travels to Switzerland, where the Bircher Glacier's recent collapse buried the village of Blatten beneath millions of tons of ice and rock. Landslides of this magnitude are rare. Professor Daniel Farinotti and a team of experts from ETH Zurich and the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF are investigating exactly what happened. Their goal is to be better prepared if a similar collapse occurs elsewhere. The likelihood of which is increasing as the alps warm.

The vanishing glaciers of the Swiss Alps reveal the scale of change unfolding across our planet - reshaping the world before our eyes. A stark reminder that the time for action on climate change is now.
