Russia president Vladimir Putin has set out terms for ending military action in Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded by immediately dismissing them.
The announcement from Moscow comes on the eve of a meeting billed by Ukraine as a peace conference in Geneva. Around 90 countries are expected to be represented although Russia was not invited and China has said it will not attend.
In order to halt fighting, Putin called on Ukraine to commit to remaining outside of NATO and withdraw troops from four regions claimed by Russia. The minute it did so, Russia forces would be ordered to stop firing and talks could commence, he said.
However, speaking to Italy's SkyTG24 news channel on the sidelines of a G7 summit, Zelenskyy said he did not trust Putin to keep to any agreement.

Ukraine has a longstanding position that it will not talk to Russia until it withdraws from all parts of Ukraine.
At the G7 summit in Italy, leaders had agreed to use the interest on frozen Russian assets to finance a $50 billion program of support for Ukraine. The U.S. also this week announced a 10-year security pact with Kyiv.
