UN rights chief Volker Turk said Tuesday that reports of mass graves underneath Gaza's hospitals have "horrified" him.

"We feel the need to raise the alarm because clearly there have been multiple bodies discovered," said Ravina Shamdasani, spokesman for Turk's offices.

"Some of them had their hands tied, which of course indicates serious violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, and these need to be subjected to further investigations."

Recovery workers are sifting through the debris of Gaza's Al Shifa hospital and Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis. Nearly 200 bodies have been discovered at the two sites thus far, with field teams reporting signs of restraints and execution being visible on some of the carcasses.

U.S. looking into alleged IDF human rights abuses

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the United States is looking into the alleged reports of human rights violations committed by the IDF following the emerging of reports regarding the mass graves.

Blinken also denied claims that Washington has been turning a blind-eye to the Israeli Defense forces, insisting: "Do we have a double standard? The answer is no."

His remarks came as state department spokesperson Matthew Miller blamed Hamas for the stalling of peace talks on Monday.

Stating that negotiations seeking to find a lull in the conflict had hit an impasse, Miller said Hamas had "moved the goal post" in the talks led by Qatar and Egypt.

According to the Gaza health ministry, at least 34,183 Palestinians have been killed and over 77,000 have been injured in IDF attacks since October 7.
