China's home-built passenger jet makes international debut

China's first home-made passenger jet, the C919, made its international debut, flying at the Singapore Airshow. Two narrow-body C919 and three ARJ21 passenger jetliners developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) were on show at the biennial event.

The country's first domestically produced passenger plane hopes to compete with the likes of Boeing and Airbus in the future.

 

Stranded baby seal rescued from Dalian beach

A stranded baby seal was rescued from a beach in Dalian. The seal – part of a protected species – is recovering in a rescue center before being released back into the wild. Having spotted the seal, locals called for help after several failed attempts to rescue it. Luckily, no sign of injury was found on this little creature after researchers arrived at the scene.

Spring Festival cinema attendance hits record high

China's cinema attendance during this year's Spring Festival holiday hit a historic high with over 161 million as of February 17, the last day of the eight-day break, according to Maoyan, one of the country's biggest online ticketing platforms.

Domestic films exhibited great success during the holiday season. According to rankings by media analytics platform Comscore, strong performances by Chinese releases YOLO, Pegasus 2, Boonie Bears: Time Twist and Article 20 saw them nab the top four spots, pushing Universal's spy action comedy Argylle down to fifth place.

 

Snowstorms cause disruption across China

Heavy snow and cold has caused disruption across China, affecting air and rail travel. The cold wave has slowed down the thawing of frozen sections along the upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River, with local water authorities enhancing efforts in ice-floor control to ensure safety during the river's thawing period.

 

Professional lion dance team helps young girl with her practice

In south China's Jieyang City, a young girl was practicing lion dance on her own by the roadside when she happened to encounter a professional lion dance team driving by and waiting at the traffic light on February 10. The lion dance team spontaneously joined her performance by accompanying the girl with gongs and drum beats. This was how they greeted each other.
