World's first ultra-high-altitude wind power project

The world's largest ultra-high-altitude wind power generation project, built at an altitude of 4,650 meters, started operation in Nagqu, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 1.

With a capacity of 100 megawatts, the wind farm is designed to provide 200 million kilowatt-hours of electricity a year to 230,000 local residents. It could save a total of 60,000 tonnes of standard coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 200,000 tonnes.

 

Nuclear power plant sets new record

The world's first fourth-generation nuclear power plant has gone into operation in China. It will help support the country's scientific and technological self-reliance, and build China into an energy power.

The Shidaowan nuclear power plant, located in Rongcheng City of east China's Shandong Province, is the world's first fourth-generation nuclear power plant that has been put into commercial operation.

 

China enjoys New Year tourism surge

Growing consumer sentiment was evident across China during the three-day New Year holiday with shopping malls, restaurants, and tourist sites were bustling with crowds, signaling robust economic momentum.

Data from the Ministry of Commerce showed several key sectors across China enjoyed double-digit growth during the three-day New Year's Day holiday, which ended Monday.

Fourth C919 aircraft delivered to China Eastern Airlines

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) delivered the fourth homegrown C919 passenger plane to China Eastern Airlines for commercial operation on Tuesday. The delivery was completed by a short flight in the morning from the Shanghai Pudong International Airport to the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.

 

New online laws aim to protect minors

China's new regulation on the protection of minors in cyberspace pays attention to outstanding problems, stipulates healthy network content, strengthens judicial protection of minors' interests, and unites social forces to achieve goals.

Adopted by Chinese lawmakers in October 2023, the regulation officially came into effect on January 1, 2024. At the end of June 2023, China's internet user base stood at 1.08 billion people, with minors accounting for over 191 million of that number.

 

Tourists flock to Harbin City's ice and snow world

Harbin City of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has been trending on Chinese social media in recent weeks for its booming winter tourism business, with tourists from warmer southern parts of China flocking to the northern ice city like never before.

The city has become the latest social media frenzy in China for tourism in a post-pandemic era. Many tourists have never seen snow, and are now paying to experience a freezing winter.
