A Swiss start up is offering 'NATO-grade' underground security to the mega-rich, nervous in an uncertain world.
The concept, called Oppidum - Latin for fortified settlement - promises a totally bespoke, super-secure, self-sufficient bunker that makes its own water, air, and energy.
The company, also called Oppidum, claims its product is fully air-tight and gas-tight, and can be completely isolated from the outside atmosphere if required. An air reserve and internal circulation system lets occupants breathe normally and safely for up to a month.

"We create high-end underground bunkers at client's existing residences, right next to the villa, under the garden," said Oppidum CEO Jakub Zamrazil.
Each bunker can provide living accommodation and leisure facilities while leaving almost no visible trace of its presence on the surface.
Unlike a purely functional bunker, Oppidum adds value to the owner's primary residence by offering facilities such as a private art gallery, secure meeting lounge, comfortable bedroom suites, bespoke spa, and other leisure amenities for everyday peacetime use.

"The main area is the living area. It's basically similar to what you can find in above ground residences and it serves for the primary use in the case of threat," Zamrazil said.
"We have an optimistic view of the future and we want Oppidum to bring added value for everyday peacetime use of the property," he added.
Oppidum sad it is targeting individuals in the U.S., Europe and UAE with a net worth of more than $100 million, and can afford to pay at least $10 million to protect what they hold dear.
