TOP HEADLINES 

· The UK is likely to force health workers in the National Health Service (NHS) to be fully vaccinated to protect patients, Health Secretary Sajid Javid told Sky News on Monday. He said he was not deterred by the fact there is already a staff shortage in the health system.

· Ed Sheeran has tested positive on Sunday night, less than a week before the release of his new album. The British pop star announced on Instagram he will be self-isolating, "It means that I'm now unable to plough ahead with any in-person commitments for now, so I'll be doing as many of my planned interviews/performances I can from my house." 

· Poland's daily cases are growing at a rate of around 90 percent week-on-week, deputy health minister Waldemar Kraska said on Monday. He also told media that the government will consider tighter restrictions if average daily cases exceed 7,000.

· A night-time curfew has been reintroduced in Romania alongside mandatory mask wearing in all public spaces, as the country faces the worst health crisis since the pandemic began. On Sunday, the capital was stormed by protesters.

· Russia reported 37,930 new  infections on Monday in the last 24 hours, its highest single-day case tally since the start of the pandemic. This Thursday, the Russian government will introduce its tightest lockdown since June 2020.

· A county in China's Inner Mongolia region at the centre of a mini outbreak of coronavirus has been locked down. Ejin has asked its 38,000 residents to stay at home after identifying around 30 cases of COVID-19. Other areas have also tightened rules. 

· Unvaccinated tennis players will be allowed to compete at the Australian Open but they will have to quarantine for 14 days, according to a leaked Women's Tennis Association email. Australian government officials insist the matter is "not settled."

· Vaccines in the U.S. will be available for children aged five to 11 in early to mid-November, said Anthony Fauci on Sunday.

· South Korea said it will donate one million doses of AstraZeneca to Iran.
