· More than a billion jabs have been administered in China, according to the country's health authority. That means that it accounts for more than a third of the world's total, which surpassed 2.5 billion on Friday.

· At least 3,854,387 have died from the virus globally since 2019, according to AFP. The worst-hit country is the U.S., with 601,574 deaths. Brazil has the second-highest rate, followed by India, Mexico, Peru and then Russia. However, the World Health Organization believes that the death toll is three times higher than the official numbers.

· Thousands of people hit the streets in Brazil to participate in protests because over half a million people have died as a result of the pandemic. Protesters are blaming the government for not acquiring vaccines fast enough. Currently, only 11 percent of the country is fully vaccinated.

· Russia reported 17,611 new cases on Sunday, taking the country's total tally to 5,316,826 cases since the pandemic began. And in the past 24 hours, 450 deaths have been linked to of the virus.

· And Turkey is one of the most recent recipients of its vaccine. On Saturday, it received 5 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine. The country is trying to ramp up its vaccination program and revitalize its tourism sector. Since Monday, Turkey has administered more than 1 million jabs daily.

· Half of the new cases in Lisbon are caused by the more aggressive Delta variant. Portugal is currently trying to combat a spike in infections, and it reported 1,000 new cases on Sunday.

· Switzerland plans to start vaccinating young people as young as 12 next week, according to the country's vaccine chief Christoph Berger.

· A member of the Ugandan Olympic team tested positive when they reached Japan a month before the start of the games. It is the first case of an Olympic arrival testing positive for the virus after landing. The Ugandan team is just the second group to arrive in Japan in preparation for the games. Australian women's softball team arrived on June 1.

· Non-EU travelers from the UK will no longer be able to visit Belgium, as the country imposes a new ban on 27 countries to halt the spread of the more aggressive Delta variant. The ban will come into effect by June 27.

· Around 60,000 fans crowded into the Puskas Arena in Budapest to watch France and Hungary play their Euro 2020 match on Saturday. It is the only venue not to impose capacity restrictions.

· And finally, 32,000 spectators a day will be allowed to attend the British Open because the golf tournament is taking part in the UK's 'Events Research Programme.' The program allows some events to have a higher capacity than guidelines permit.

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

Nicole Johnston, London

England is continuing its "super-vaccination" weekend aiming to give more than 100,000 people a day the jab at mass vaccination centers in London.

Four football stadiums have been turned into vaccination centres and young people have been turning up in large numbers for their first dose as everyone aged over 18 can now be vaccinated in England.

Meanwhile, Susan Hopkins from Public Health England has told the BBC that the current wave "will not look the same as previous waves" and for restrictions to be lifted, up to 70 percent of the population would need to be fully vaccinated.

As for international travel which is still severely restricted in the UK, Justice Secretary Robert Buckland told the BBC there "has to be a significant trade-off" between trying to contain the Delta variant and re-opening the skies to travel.
