UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has sent his "best wishes to everyone celebrating Chinese New Year this weekend," and said during the Year of the Ox, both countries will "win our struggle against the (COVID-19) pandemic."

Johnson sent his public message to the global Chinese community, as the UK's national lockdown continues, resulting in the cancelation of colorful New Year parades in London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and Sheffield.

He praised the UK Chinese community for their "incredible contribution … consistently achieving so much in everything from education to business and medicine."

Johnson's message ended with a wish for all those celebrating across the globe to enjoy "a happy and prosperous Lunar New Year."
