A group of snow enthusiasts led by IT consultant Janne Pyykko worked in temperatures of minus 10 degrees Celsius to create what's believed to be Finland's largest snow artwork, an intricate drawing traced in the 30 cm-deep snow, measuring 160 meters across.

Pyykko and collaborators, recruited on a snowshoeing Facebook group, followed a geometric image designed by Pyykko on his computer to create the interlocking circles making up the artwork in Espoo, just outside the country's capital Helsinki, using only footprints and lengths of ropes.

"We spent three hours laughing and walking. More than that, it would have started to get cold, but Janne was very good with the timing, so when he told us it would take three hours, it did," explained Elena Ceccarelli, one of the volunteers who participated in the project.

Considering the success of the initiative, Pyykko is now planning new snow artwork designs: "I think I'll go back to my computer, design something different, a bit smaller perhaps, and because people are so enthusiastic already to continue, I think there will be new snow drawings in the near weeks."
