Most of Europe's ski slopes are closed this year, including the majority of the ones in the Alps. But that doesn't mean people aren't enjoying the mountains and snow anyway.

For instance, consider the French holidaymakers at one ski resort that is allowing people to play on its closed slopes, as long as they don't use the ski lift.

Tignes ski resort in Tignes-les-Bain is partially open, meaning that people can sledge and ski below the slopes. They can also get takeaway at many of the resort's restaurants.

This will allow some to enjoy the snow before the resort is allowed to open on January 7 – as long as the spread of COVID-19 is managed.
