Sky Brown is an 11-year-old skateboarder who has her sights set on qualifying for Team GB in Tokyo 2020.
Born to a Japanese mother, Mieko, and British father, Stu, Brown grew up in Miyazaki, Japan.
Brown has endorsement deals with Nike, 441,000 Instagram followers and nearly 80,000 subscribers on her YouTube account that she runs with her brother, Ocean. Brown was also one of the top three in the Young Sports Personality of the Year competition, but missed out to boxer Caroline Dubois, who's 18. Videos of her skating regularly go viral on the web but there is more to Brown's significance than her internet popularity.
Sky Brown is considered by many to be breaking the mould, proving not only that young girls can be interested in skateboarding but that they can rise to the top of the sport.
Despite growing up in Japan, Brown is representing Britain at the Olympics, which means she could potentially be Great Britain's youngest-ever summer olympian if she qualifies for Tokyo 2020.
Speaking to CGTN, Brown said 'We weren't going to do the Olympics, my parents said it was too much pressure for me but then Team GB, they said that there was no pressure, just get out there and have fun.'
Skateboarding is one of five sports which will be added to the Olympics in Tokyo. Although there's no guarantee that any of the recent additions will be included in Olympic ceremonies in following years, a skateboarding event has been provisionally approved by the IOC for the 2024 Games in Paris. It is expected that as a result of its Olympic profile skteboarding will get more recognition as a competitive sport.
Brown said: 'That's why I want to be in the Olympics, because I know a lot of people are going to watch it.
'I've always wanted to inspire, I feel like that's what made me want to skateboard to show that I was the only girl at the skatepark but now there's a lot more girls.
'You can do anything, you just got to believe in yourself and just have fun.'
