Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has concluded a two-day official visit to Montenegro, with both countries looking to strengthen economic cooperation, expand investment opportunities and deepen diplomatic relations.
The visit began with a warm gesture from Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, who welcomed Wang Yi in Chinese, adding a personal touch to the high-level diplomatic talks.
Wang's visit, the first by a Chinese foreign minister since Montenegro regained independence in 2006, coincided with the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
During his stay, Wang met President Jakov Milatović and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović on Saturday, before holding talks with Prime Minister Spajić on Sunday.
Economic cooperation dominated the agenda, with discussions focusing on infrastructure development, investment, energy and trade.
Among the key projects discussed was the Bar–Boljare motorway, particularly its second section, supported by European financing. Both sides also explored opportunities in renewable energy and ways to increase Montenegrin exports to the Chinese market.

Beyond economic cooperation, the meetings carried an important political message.
China reaffirmed its respect for Montenegro's foreign-policy priorities, including its ambition to become a member of the European Union.
Prime Minister Spajić welcomed Beijing's position, emphasizing that EU integration remains Montenegro's top priority.
"Montenegro is about to join the European Union and this is our biggest priority, and we see that China is supporting that path and we are very happy for that," Spajić said.
He also welcomed progress in trade negotiations between China and the European Union, highlighting the potential benefits of closer economic engagement.
Tourism, regional stability and future diplomatic exchanges were also discussed as both countries explored opportunities to strengthen their partnership.
The visit brought renewed momentum to China–Montenegro relations, with both sides expressing interest in turning shared priorities into practical cooperation.
As the two countries mark two decades of diplomatic ties, the focus now shifts toward translating discussions into tangible projects, expanding economic opportunities and building an even stronger partnership in the years ahead.
