Europe's Housing Crisis - The Agenda

The Agenda

28:19

The EU’s Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen, has warned that Europe’s housing crisis has become an “emergency” and that soaring housing costs are “completely unacceptable”.

Over the past decade, average house prices in the EU have risen by more than 60% while rents have increased by more than 20%, leaving millions of Europeans struggling to find a home they can afford.

So what does this mean for Europe’s wider economy? What can governments do to tackle the crisis? And where in the world is housing policy getting it right?

Joining Juliet Mann on this edition of The Agenda are Manuel Aalbers, Professor of Geography at KU Leuven; Raymond Torres, Director of Macroeconomic and International Analysis at Funcas; and Vicky Pryce, Chief Economic Adviser at the Centre for Economics and Business Research.
