The Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom hosted a press briefing for Chinese and foreign media on Wednesday to introduce China's newly released white paper on global governance.
The white paper, titled "More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China's Principles, Proposals and Actions", was released in June by China's State Council Information Office. Embassy Spokesperson Minister Counsellor Bi Haibo led the briefing, outlining the document's key themes before taking questions from journalists.
In his remarks, the Minister Councellor elaborated on China's vision for global governance, emphasising the need to foster broader international consensus, deliver more effective responses to global challenges, and construct a fairer and more equitable global system. He highlighted China's principles, concrete proposals, and ongoing actions in this area.
The Minister Councellor noted that in 2025, President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), which aims to provide a Chinese solution to two fundamental questions of the era: what kind of global governance system the world should build, and how global governance should be reformed and improved.
Addressing bilateral ties amid recent transitions in the UK government, Bi Haibo reaffirmed that China's policy towards the UK remains consistent and stable.
He stated that China is committed to developing bilateral relations and deepening cooperation across various fields. He identified promising areas for collaboration, including the green economy, medicine, artificial intelligence, climate change, education, and culture.
Bi expressed China's positive outlook on the relationship and said Beijing stands ready to work closely with the new UK government to advance mutual interests.
When asked about China's role in the Middle East, the Minister Counsellor pointed to the normalization of relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran as a significant diplomatic achievement, in which China played a mediating role.
He said China has taken on this responsibility and resumed its mission of contributing to world peace. He stressed Beijing's approach of encouraging direct dialogue among all relevant parties and engaging through all possible channels.
He added that China believes progress should be pursued patiently, waiting for the right conditions, in line with its philosophy of promoting positive momentum in peace efforts.
