The Chinese Embassy in the UK has condemned the allegations of the "Chinese espionage threat" made by the British Security Service MI5 together with the intelligence agencies from other Five Eyes countries, saying it is "entirely fabricated and constitutes malicious slander."
In a statement released on Thursday, the embassy spokesperson said the "Five Eyes" are the world's largest intelligence network, and its members have engaged in unscrupulous espionage and intelligence-gathering activities around the globe, accusing them for posing threat to the world.
"We urge the UK side to immediately stop this clumsy self-staged show of thief crying catch thief. Otherwise, it will only bring shame upon itself," reads the statement.
The intelligence agencies of the Five Eyes alliance including the US and the UK on Wednesday issued a warming, saying that "Chinese spies" are using online job platforms to recruit people with access to "sensitive information."
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made a response to a reporter's questions at the daily press conference as well.
"As the world's largest intelligence cooperation network, the 'Five Eyes' has long engaged in massive systemic espionage all over the world. It is ironic that such an organization is accusing China of 'spy threat'," said the spokesperson.
