Merz visits China: Trade, strategy and Germany's choices

The Agenda

28:05

Germany's Chancellor Friedrich Merz this week became the latest European Leader to visit Beijing - his first visit to China since he took office.

He met China's President Xi Jinping - who called for stronger communications and deeper trust, while stressing the importance of cooperation in tech innovation and the cultural sector.

For his part Merz said it was time to "emphasize the things we have in common and face the challenges we stand before together."

So what does this visit say about relations between the world's second and third largest economies?

Joining Juliet Mann on this edition of The Agenda are Heiner Flassbeck, German economist, and Former State Secretary at Germany's Ministry of Finance; Ulrich Brückner, Jean Monnet Professor for European Studies at Stanford University in Berlin; Zhang Biao, Associate Professor at the China University of Political Science and Law; and Eberhard Sandschneider, partner of Berlin Global Advisors.
