Chinese Embassy rejects UK remarks on PLA drills around Taiwan region

The Chinese Embassy in the UK on Wednesday expressed strong opposition against the remarks made by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office regarding the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) military exercises around the Taiwan region, urging the UK to stop interfering in China's internal affairs.

The UK side made "erroneous remarks on the military exercises around Taiwan," and called for "restraint and avoidance of any further actions that risk undermining peace and stability," read a statement by an Embassy spokesperson.

"Taiwan is a province of China, and Taiwan question is China's internal affair. The biggest threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait comes from the separatist forces who seek 'Taiwan independence' through military buildup and external interference," the statement reads.

The PLA drills are a punitive and deterrent action against the Taiwan separatist forces, a stern warning against external interference and a necessary move to safeguard China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Embassy emphasized.

"No country is entitled to make irresponsible comments on it."

China urged the UK government to respect the one-China principle and honor its commitment to China, refraining from actions that interfere in China's internal affairs, emboldens the separatists in Taiwan and undermines peace and stability in Taiwan Strait.
