The 'Tianjin Investment Environment Promotion Conference (UK) took place in London on April 25, bringing together senior government officials, business leaders, and investors from both China and the UK to explore new avenues for economic and trade cooperation.

Chinese Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang addressed the forum, underscoring the need for unity in the global economic landscape.

"In the face of such irrational act, China has stated its firm opposition and taken necessary countermeasures," he said. "We have done so for our national interests and also, for the multilateral trading system and for international justice."

"At this critical juncture, the international community needs to show solidarity and act together against unilateralism and trade bullying. Much is at stake here, not only our respective economic interests, but more also the global trading system," he added.

Ambassador Zheng stressed that appeasement would only embolden those undermining fair trade principles. 

"Appeasement or caving in will simply invite more trouble and embolden the bully," he said. "Only firm opposition will convince the US to change its current course. On this major issue of principle, it is hoped that the UK, with a long tradition of championing free and open trade, will stay on the right side of history."

Hosted by the Tianjin Municipal People's Government, the event aimed to deepen bilateral collaboration, introduce key development opportunities in Tianjin's industrial sectors, and foster strategic partnerships between Chinese and British enterprises.

The forum highlighted Tianjin's growing role as a hub for innovation and international investment, with a focus on green development, high-end manufacturing, digital transformation, and logistics. 

Organizers emphasized the city's position in serving China's broader development strategies and its openness to international cooperation.

The conference concluded with a series of networking sessions and project presentations designed to match investors with high-potential ventures in Tianjin. 

Organizers say the event marks a step forward in expanding practical cooperation between Chinese and British businesses.
