Fantastic Beijing Fair opens in London, celebrating Chinese culture

The Fantastic Beijing Fair kicked off in London on Saturday, coinciding with the fourth day of the Chinese New Year.

Organized by the Communication University of China, the event showcased artistic works by its faculty and students, celebrating UNESCO's recent recognition of the CNY as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The centerpiece of the fair was an exhibition of 35 calligraphy and painting pieces crafted by the university's students and faculty. These artworks were admired by many visitors for their refined techniques and rich aesthetic values of Chinese culture.

Video presentations highlighted Beijing's blend of ancient history and modern vibrancy as the "Dual Olympic City," while traditional handicrafts delighted visitors, especially children.

Festive decorations, including red lanterns, intricate Chinese knots, and traditional "Fu" characters, adorned the venue, creating a lively and celebratory atmosphere. Many locals also tried their hand at calligraphy.

In a move to broaden its reach, the event has been made accessible on an online platform, complete with detailed explanatory videos and suggested virtual tour routes, allowing audiences across the UK and Europe to explore Beijing's cultural heritage.
