French political crisis: The Agenda full episode

The Agenda

France has been left in a political and economic crisis following the fall of Michel Barnier's government.

Barnier became the first French Prime Minister to lose a no-confidence vote in more than 60 years, after attempting and failing to push his controversial budget through the National Assembly without a vote. The idea had been to confirm a budget aimed at cutting the country's huge deficit, but the week ended with no budget, and no real government.

So where does this leave France, its economy, its role in the EU and indeed the rest of the world? Joining Juliet Mann on this episode of The Agenda are Jacques Reland, Senior Research Fellow at the Global Policy Institute; Renaud Foucart, Senior Lecturer at Lancaster University; and Paul Smith, Associate Professor in French History and Politics at the University of Nottingham.
