In the heart of Athens, at the Serafio Museum, Chinese traditions and Olympic history converged in a dazzling exhibition celebrating Beijing's unique achievement as the only city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

The event attracted a diverse audience and highlighted the enduring bond between Greece and China.

Kung Fu warriors and Tai Chi masters enthralled visitors with performances set to traditional Chinese music, creating an immersive cultural experience. The exhibition, aptly named 'Double Olympics,' brought together artists, political leaders, business professionals, and members of the Greek community to explore the significance of cultural exchange.

"This event highlights the natural connections between cultures," Greek visitor Kostas, told CGTN. "Despite our differences, we share much in common. It's refreshing to see such positivity amidst the often-negative headlines."

Historic milestone

Organized by the Beijing Olympic City Development Association (BODA), the exhibition celebrated China's historic Olympic milestones—hosting the 2008 Summer Games and the 2022 Winter Games.

It featured Olympic memorabilia, iconic photographs from the opening and closing ceremonies, and intricate Chinese artworks that inspired the Games' designs.

Attendees were also treated to live demonstrations of Chinese cultural traditions, including calligraphy, tea ceremonies, and paper cutting. These interactive experiences allowed visitors to connect deeply with the richness of Chinese heritage, creating a tangible cultural bridge between Greece and China.

Monica Shuxian Yu, manager of the 'Double Olympics' Expo, explained the choice of Greece for this showcase.

Meaningful economic collaboration

"As the birthplace of the Olympics, Greece holds unique global significance. Through this exhibition, visitors can explore and connect with Chinese culture," she said.

Beyond the vibrant displays and performances, the exhibition also underscored the broader implications of cultural exchanges.

"Investments don't happen spontaneously. They result from long-term cultural, ideological, and interpersonal interactions," Ioannis Georgizas, CEO of the Serafio Complex, told CGTN. "Events like this pave the way for meaningful economic collaboration."

As the exhibition concluded, it left a lasting impression on all who attended.

It was a celebration not just of Beijing's Olympic legacy but of the growing opportunities for mutual understanding and cooperation between Greece and China—a testament to the enduring power of cultural diplomacy.
