The ancient martial art of Wing Chun came to life on stage at London's Sadler's Wells Theatre with the premiere of a spectacular dance drama on August 30.

Over the next nine days, until September 7, audiences will be treated to a total of 12 performances, blending movement, music, and martial arts to tell the story of Wing Chun and the man who brought it to the world, Grandmaster Yip Man.

The production, performed by a talented cast from Shenzhen, a leading global technology hub, promises to mesmerize audiences with its unique fusion of contemporary dance, drama, and various martial arts, including Wing Chun, Tai Chi, Bagua Zhang, Baji Quan, and Praying Mantis.

Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Zheng Zeguang, addressed the premiere, warmly welcoming the artists from the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theater. 

He expressed his belief that the dance drama would offer UK audiences a deeper understanding of Chinese martial arts and the underlying philosophy and values upheld by its practitioners.

Wing Chun, a style of kung fu originating from Southern China, is renowned for its close-quarter, rapid-fire techniques. 

The show tells the true story of martial artist and Grandmaster Yip Man and his influence on the legendary art of Wing Chun from its 300-year-old origins in China to its explosion across the rest of the world, and his most famous student – Bruce Lee. 

Choreographed by Han Zhen and Zhou Liya, "Wing Chun" offers more than just a depiction of Yip Man's life or the legend of Chinese kung fu. 

In an interview with CGTN, Han Zhen emphasized that the story resonates with anyone who has pursued their dreams.

The Wing Chun dance drama has already made waves in China, where it debuted in December 2022 and quickly became a sensation. 

It has toured major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, and Tianjin, drawing large audiences and critical acclaim.

This marks the production's second international tour, following its successful run in Singapore last September. 

After its performances in London, the show will head to Paris, where it will enchant French audiences with four performances at the Palais des congrès de Paris from October 4 to 6.
