On a state visit to Austria, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that "this is not the time for war" and called for "the rapid restoration of peace and stability," insisting "the loss of innocent lives is not acceptable wherever it takes place."
Speaking during a joint press conference with Austria's Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Modi said the two leaders had extensive discussions about "the conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia."
"India and Austria both lay emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy for the rapid restoration of peace and stability," Modi said. "Both of us are ready to provide all possible support to achieve this."

In Vienna, Modi was accompanied by a business delegation for a bilateral economic forum and also met with the Austrian president Alexander van der Bellen. India is one of Austria's most important trading partners outside the EU.
Despite Austria's political efforts, however, India is likely to maintain its position of equidistance in the Ukraine conflict.
