Wild elephants gather for a 'family reunion dinner' in SW China

Last Friday, 25 wild Asian elephants enjoyed a remarkable "family reunion dinner" in Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, China. Local authorities have built canteens, providing their favorite foods like bananas and corn to protect them during the winter scarcity.

After their meal, the elephants rested, with playful babies cuddling their mothers. At twilight, they headed to the riverbank, where rare scenes of them crossing the water were captured. The endangered Asian elephant receives top-tier protection in China, paralleling that of the giant panda, reflecting efforts to safeguard their dwindling population.
