Wondering if your pet pooch's name will be a hit in the UK? Well, according to a new report on the country's most popular names for man's best friend, your dog could be in with a chance if it's named Charles, Barbie, or even Albus Dumblepaws.

The list of hit hound names compiled by dog-walking company Rover also includes more conventional titles such as Taylor, Alan, and Ken, while 'H' and Meghan are becoming less popular.

If you're noticing a nod to a certain pink-powered movie that hit cinemas this year, you wouldn't be wrong: the success of Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie saw the name Ken grow in popularity by 79 percent, while the number of people calling their dog Barbie jumped by a mind-boggling 1,079 percent.

At the same time, the Royal Coronation saw the popularity of the name Charles go up by 90 percent, in honor of the UK's new king. Sadly, the names of former royals Harry and Meghan saw a significant dip, with people choosing them 62 and 117 percent less than before.

The surge in popularity for Taylor is likely down to Taylor Swift's hit global tour The Eras, while the lure to name your dog Swift went up by 29 percent.

And if music wasn't the deciding factor, then sport seemed to play and important role: certain UK football success stories, such as England's Lionesses doing particularly well in the Women's World Cup, saw player names such as Jill (Scott), (Alessia) Russo, and Rachel (Daly) all come out high on the trending list. Following Manchester City's treble triumph, John (Stones) was up 106 percent, and Kevin (De Bruyne) got a bump of 80 percent.

According to the research, more than a quarter of people admitted to letting their children choose the family dog's name, while eight percent of pet owners named their dogs after themselves. Rover's report also showed that just over half of the new names were gender-neutral.

The company also predicted that many would start turning to AI to help them choose their dog names in 2024. And because of the viral Roman Empire trend in TikTok, it said it expected lots of Roman Empire inspired names to top the list next year, like Julius and Caesar.

The 2024 Olympics, the report says, will also see a boost in names like Paris and Olympus, while Kung Fu Panda's return to the screen next year will likely see Po and Panda jump in popularity.

And not to forget Christmas, Tinsel is one of the UK's top trending Christmas names, while Jesus also appears to be a hit. Sadly, the same can't be said for Rudolph and Snowy which are both down by 41 and 18 percent respectively.
