Time for a transition away from fossil fuels. That was the final agreement at the end of the COP28 climate change gathering in Dubai. It came at the end of a desperate last minute round of negotiations after an initial draft agreement was criticized for not addressing the need to phase out oil and gas. So is it, as some say, a truly historic moment – the first time a COP has officially recognized the need to cut down the world's reliance on petrol? Or, as one delegate put it, a leaky canoe we have to put in the water because we have no other options?
