China opens world's deepest underground lab

A 2,400-meter-deep physics laboratory in southwest China's Sichuan Province became operational on Thursday, making it the deepest and largest underground lab in the world.

Scientists say the laboratory provides a "clean" space to pursue the invisible substance known as dark matter. They said the extreme depth helps to block out most cosmic rays that interfere with the observation.

Crested ibises

A nature reserve in northwest China's Shaanxi Province is playing a crucial role in the conservation of crested ibises, ensuring this rare species' survival and providing hope for its continued existence in the future.

The Shaanxi Hanzhong Crested Ibis National Nature Reserve is home to the world's largest population of wild crested ibises, where more than 100 of the birds have been raised. Back in 1981, there were just seven ibises left in China, sparking the conservation initiative at the reserve.

Launch of MISRSAT-2 satellite highlights China-Africa collaboration

China successfully sent the satellite MISRSAT-2, jointly developed with Egypt, into orbit from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on Monday.

The satellite's solar panels started working in space, and the launch mission was declared a complete success. Scientists from China and Egypt have been co-designing and developing the satellite since the two countries officially signed a contract for the project in 2019.

China discovers giant oil well

The state-owned oil giant PetroChina said on Saturday its branch Changqing Oilfield has discovered a large-scale, well-preserved oilfield with geological reserves of over 100 million tons in northwest China's Gansu Province.

Located in Hongde Town, Huanxian County in the western region of the Ordos Basin, the oilfield has extremely complex geological conditions. Due to geological faults and intertwined fractures there, Oilfield once failed to make any breakthrough for more than 10 years - until now.
