China Hi-Tech Fair attracts over 4,900 enterprises 

The 25th China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF) took place in south China's tech hub of Shenzhen, showcasing a number of advanced products and technologies.

The fair has attracted 4,925 enterprises from 105 countries and regions, making it the biggest ever in the event's history.

During the five-day event, exhibitions with themes such as clean energy and low-carbon technology have been held. A series of activities, including forums and signing ceremonies, took place during the fair, with more than 680 new achievements announced.

 

Light festival brightens Beijing

Across various locations in Beijing's Chaoyang District, delightful light shows are brightening winter nights for both locals and tourists. 

The 2023 Beijing Chaoyang International Light Festival showcases vibrant illuminations, alongside food stalls and a diverse array of cultural events. These include tours, exhibitions, and concerts, contributing to a lively atmosphere. 

The festival is set to continue until December 9.

Kilometers-long tables line streets for Hani New Year banquet

Long banquet tables extending as far as the eye could see hosted thousands of diners to celebrate the Hani ethnic group's New Year holiday in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

Also called the Long Street Banquet, the event is held annually in the province's Luchun County, where the majority of residents are Hani. This is when they gather to celebrate their harvest and pray for a prosperous year ahead.

An astounding 4,065 banquet tables were arranged this year to mark the county's 65th anniversary.

 

First half marathon on sea-crossing Hong Kong bridge

Approximately 8,000 participants from around the world took part in the inaugural half-marathon (Hong Kong Section) held on a sea-crossing bridge connecting Guangdong Province with the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which is 55 kilometers long, started operating on October 24, 2018. 

It was strategically designed to promote integration within the Greater Bay Area, encompassing Hong Kong, Macao, and nine cities in Guangdong.

Vertical liftoff for fixed-wing drone

A groundbreaking domestically produced drone with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities was unveiled at the 25th China Hi-Tech Fair in Shenzhen. 

This innovative vehicle, the first of its kind globally, is the independent creation of the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics, and Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. 

Its distinctive features include two sets of fixed wings and multiple rotor wings.

Migratory birds reach wetlands for winter stay

Flocks of migratory birds have arrived at wetland reserves in China for wintering.

The Ruoergai Wetland National Nature Reserve in southwest China's Sichuan Province has welcomed a great variety of birds, including endangered black-necked cranes, bar-headed geese and the ruddy shelducks.

"We recently conducted a three-day monitoring on the black-necked cranes and a survey on migratory waterfowls," said a scientific research officer with the reserve.

"A total of 15 species of migratory water birds, including cranes, have been observed. In addition, the number of migratory water birds in the reserve is increasing."
