A CGTN Europe documentary about the UK's historic expulsion of Chinese World War II sailors has won four awards in a prestigious London ceremony.

The 2023 Lovie Awards gathered and rewarded top European media, brands, content creators and celebrities.

The Secret Betrayal, which exposes a secret UK government policy to split Chinese sailors from their families in Liverpool, was given the Silver award in the Documentary category and the Bronze in the Public Service section – and better yet, won the popular vote outright in both those categories.

The awards were decided by the European arm of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

Expressing his gratitude, Neil Cairns, Executive Producer of RAZOR at CGTN Europe, emphasized, "The people's recognition is the greatest award." Meanwhile, CGTN presenter Jamie Owen dedicated the honors to the vibrant city of Liverpool.

The Secret Betrayal exposes how Chinese sailors who had played a vital role in helping the Allies defeat the Nazis were, without warning, deported. In some cases their families did not even know why they had disappeared and most were never reunited.

If you are yet to watch the award-winning documentary, it is available to watch in its entirety on CGTN Europe's YouTube channel – and you can also enjoy our multimedia special on the story.
