18th Changchun Film Festival opens

Chinese film stars and filmmakers attended a spectacular opening ceremony as the 18th Changchun Film Festival got underway. Ten awards, including for best film, director, actor and actress, and best screenplay, will be presented during the festival. Fifteen films are up for the prestigious Golden Deer award which is for the best film.

World War Two-era bomb shelters repurposed

Former World War II-era bomb shelters in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality are being re-purposed into museums, restaurants, bookstores and other places of interest, creating a unique revenue model for local businesses.

One abandoned shelter has been transformed into a futuristic attraction to raise awareness about climate change and since its opening in March, the experience center has had 200,000 visitors.

China's Beautiful Bays campaign making progress

A nationwide campaign to enhance China's coastal environment is making progress. The Beautiful Bays campaign is aiming for restoration of all of the country's 1,467 ocean bays by 2035. The initiative includes water quality improvement, marine life recovery and natural coastline protection. Eight coastal provinces have established comprehensive plans to achieve the objectives.

Endangered ibises thriving in Shaanxi Province

For the past decade, China has been reintroducing captive-bred crested ibises into the wild as part of its efforts to save the once-threatened species. The crested ibis used to be designated as "critically endangered" on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's red list due to its extremely low population in the 1980s.

Xianjiang ancient ruins evacuation into second phase

The second phase of excavation on Toqquzsaray Ruins in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is underway. The ruins date back 2,200 years and the excavation is aimed at proving that the ancient city was a significant part of the ancient Silk Road.

Hangzhou Asian Games medal design unveiled

The 19th Asian Games will take place in the city of Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8. The medals are called Shan Shui, which translates to "lake and mountain." Hangzhou's aquatic landscapes and vibrant cultures have been intricately woven into the medals' design.
