Kyiv mayor calls for more support
Kyiv's mayor has appealed for more targeted military support to defend Ukraine's capital, after the sixth night of strikes this month. In a post on Telegram, Vitali Klitschko said that what he called a "coordination council" is needed, made up of local representatives along with Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, to decide on hardware issues.
"We need to understand the real needs, what exactly needs to be purchased. Not general drones. Which ones, to whom, and in what quantity?" said Klitschko. "Drones are not a panacea. Our defenders still need a lot of things, starting with anti-drone protection equipment, for example."
There were no casualties reported after the latest overnight attack on Kyiv on Monday. Sirens began at around 1.40 a.m. local time and lasted for three hours.
Ukraine says the Iranian Saheed drones launched on the city were intercepted. Sergiy Popko, head of the Kyiv city military administration said on Telegram, "All air targets were detected and destroyed on the approach to Kyiv."
Meanwhile, Ukraine's Air Force says drones were also dropped in three regions in the north of the country. Infrastructure was damaged around the city of Zhytomyr, 140K west of Kyiv, while an empty aircraft hangar was damaged in the central region of Cherkasy.
Ukraine's military chiefs have also issued air raid warnings for the east and southeast regions of the country, saying the use of ballistic weapons by Russian troops is increasingly likely.
