Chinese ambassador to the UK, Zheng Zeguang on Thursday lodged a "solemn representation" to the UK Foreign Office, a diplomatic term for discontent, accusing its officials of false information surrounding Hong Kong. Information which it views as meddling in China's internal affairs.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) has published a list of people wanted in connection with national security violations, a move that has been claimed by UK Foreign minister James Cleverly as an attempt to "silence individuals."

Ambassador Zheng responding, reminded the UK that the police of the Hong Kong SAR issued the arrest warrants in accordance with the law. They are safeguarding the rule of law, as well as the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong, which is out of fairness, justice and righteousness, said Zheng.

Zheng described the British officials remarks as indiscreet and accused Cleverly of banging the drum for the protection of criminals. It is rude interference of China's internal affairs, and has severely violated the International Law and the basic norms governing the international relations, Zheng continued.

Since the implementation of the National Security Law, Hong Kong's society has been enjoying harmony and stability, with the economy steadily recovering and human rights and freedom of the Hong Kong residents well protected, the ambassador said.

The UK has no sovereignty over Hong Kong, or right of "supervision" over Hong Kong after its return to China, Zheng emphasized, urging the British government to drop their outdated colonial mindset, and stop all words and deeds that will harm the rule of law in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong police force said on Monday that it has applied to the court for arrest warrants and put eight people on the wanted list.
