The Chinese embassy in the UK urged some British politicians to stop interfering in China's internal affairs, and stop using anti-China disruptors to jeopardize China's sovereignty and security on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the embassy made the comment while asked for a response about Britain's Foreign Secretary James Cleverly's recent statement that the UK would "not tolerate any attempts by China to intimidate and silence individuals in the UK and overseas." Cleverly's comments coincide with Hong Kong officials confirmation that eight activists are wanted in China.
In a statement, the Chinese spokesperson said Hong Kong SAR government has issued arrest warrants for a small group of anti-China forces bent on destabilizing Hong Kong. Those people fled overseas, but continue to engage in activities that aim to disrupt Hong Kong.
The arrest warrants were issued in accordance with the national security law and local laws, said the spokesperson, and it was a just move to maintain the rule of law in Hong Kong and a necessary action to safeguard China's national sovereignty and security.
The embassy reiterated China strongly deplores and firmly opposes foreign interference and would safeguard its interests at any time.
