Rare 'peach blossom' jellyfish spotted

A rare type of freshwater jellyfish, an umbrella-shaped translucent creature, has been spotted at Puzhehei Karst National Wetland Park in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

After a few days of continuous observation, local researchers confirmed that it is the 'peach blossom' jellyfish.

Nicknamed the 'water panda,' the jellyfish is believed to have existed for more than 500 million years. Researchers say the species is very sensitive to environmental quality and only inhabits clean waters.

Kunming sees economic purple patch

The imported jacaranda flower has helped give the city of Kunming a welcome economic boost over the May holiday. The capital of Southwest China's Yunnan Province, Kunming grows more than 10 billion fresh flowers for sale annually.

The beautiful purple flower was imported to the city from South America in the 1980s and has thrived ever since.

Tourist officials say 600,000 visitors came to Kunming over the five-day public holiday, double the number last year, boosting the local economy by 3 million yuan ($430,000 USD).

Shandong's winter wheat yield shows substantial increase

Winter wheat yields in Shandong Province have grown despite recent temperature fluctuations, increasing precipitation and frequent disease outbreaks.

Local farmer Zhang Gaosheng told CGTN the region's yield over its four million hectares of farmland was expected to be 10 percent higher than last year.

The use of local agricultural technicians to guide farmers through scientific field management is credited, helping to ensure an abundant summer harvest for locals.
