China starts month-long national consumption campaign

China commenced a month-long nationwide campaign on Tuesday with a variety of activities to promote consumption.

Launch events showcasing local cuisines, culture and brands were held in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province respectively.

The campaign, called 'National Consumption Promotion Month,' will run throughout March, while seasonal activities in Beijing will last for the whole year, with 25 key pro-consumption events.

 

China tests all AG600M amphibious aircraft prototypes

All four prototypes of China's AG600M aircraft, a full-configuration firefighting model belonging to the AG600 large amphibious aircraft family, have kicked off test missions, the aircraft developer announced.

The fourth AG600M firefighting aircraft prototype successfully completed its maiden flight on Saturday in Zhuhai in south China's Guangdong Province, said the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), the country's leading plane-maker.

During the 17-minute flight, the aircraft carried out a series of planned tests. The aircraft demonstrated excellent performance, with its all systems operating stably.

Saving the green peafowl

Green peafowls are a critically endangered species, with a population of only about 600 in China. But a nature reserve in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture is helping bring the bird back from the brink. 

Since the reserve's establishment two decades ago, all human activities, such as mining, have been banned. Only 56 peafowls were monitored at the center in 2015, a number that has now increased to 267.

China is about to start selection of foreign astronauts for missions at China's space station, according to Chen Shanguang, deputy chief designer of China's manned space program. 

Complying with the principles of peaceful use, equality, mutual benefit and inclusive development, China has persistently carried out international cooperation and exchanges with countries and regions around the world, promoting the peaceful use of outer space.

Record panda number bred in Qinling

Thanks to sophisticated technologies, the birthrate of artificially-bred pandas at the Qinling Giant Panda Research Center in Xi'an City of northwest China's Shaanxi Province peaked in 2022.

The center successfully bred six artificially-inseminated cubs, including two sets of twins, the highest tally since its founding in 2003, raising the total birth count to 42.
