50th anniversary of China-Australia ties
Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with Australian Governor-General David Hurley and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Xi said practical co-operation in various fields has yielded fruitful results since diplomatic relations were established 50 years ago and benefitted both nations.
Offshore wind power project
All units of China General Nuclear Power Corporation's (CGN) offshore wind power project connected to the grid in Shanwei City, in south China's Guangdong Province, marking the completion and operation of the country's largest offshore wind power project, which achieved grid parity.
Grid parity for offshore wind power refers to the point at which the price of wind-generated electricity fed to the grid is equal to that of coal without subsidies.

2023 Spring Festival Gala mascot revealed
The Year of the Rabbit is just around the corner, with Chinese New Year starting on January 22, 2023.
The 2023 Spring Festival Gala's official logo and mascot "Tu Yuanyuan" has been revealed. It is the first intellectual property mascot generated through big data analysis in the 40-year history of the event.
The design of the mascot was completed in four months by Chen Xiangbo, the Director and Chief Curator of Guan Shanyue Art Museum in Shenzhen, and the visual design team of the Spring Festival Gala.
Migratory birds flying for wintering
Flocks of migratory birds have been spotted landing and resting in various wetlands across China as they head south for wintering.
Thousands of Eurasian coots have arrived at a lake in Lvliang city in north China's Shanxi Province. The species is distinguished by its black body with white beak and facial shield. These little travelers are having their dinner in the lake, saving enough strength for the long journey ahead.

Winter Solstice 'Dongzhi' marked
December 22 marked this year's "Dongzhi" or Winter Solstice, the 22nd of the 24 solar terms based on China's lunar calendar.
On this day, the northern hemisphere experiences the shortest day and the longest night of the year, as the sun shines directly at the Tropic of Capricorn.
Dongzhi also marks the coming of the coldest period of the year, which is known as "Shujiu Hantian" in Chinese, believed to be the coldest days.
China-Rural Revitalization/Achievements
Booming specialty industries such as strawberry cultivation have given wings to robust rural development in China, which has infused the poverty-shaken countryside with boundless vitality.
Shangyi County in Zhangjiakou city of north China's Hebei Province was one of the 832 national-level poverty-stricken counties, but it has since been lifted out of poverty. Villagers have built greenhouses, installed automatic temperature control systems, introduced biological bacterial fertilizers and implemented strict pollution-free planting standards.
