China's new rocket

Chinese astronauts could be off to the moon soon, thanks to a new-generation launch vehicle.

The rocket will be 90 meters tall, and able to lift 27 tonnes of payload to the lunar orbit.

One of the chief designers at China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology says lift-off could be ready by 2030.

Stunning sun images

China released a scientific image of the surface of the sun. It's the very first image from its 'Hard X-ray Imager' in space and the only one of its kind around the world.

The Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences released the picture, captured by the Chinese satellite and its Advanced Space-Based Solar Observatory.

The solar flare is one of the two most intense erupting phenomena on the sun, which can release huge bursts of energy in a short space of time.

More than half of the energy released by the solar flare can be seen in the form of high-energy particles, which can directly escape from the sun and have an impact on the space environment of the Earth.

Ancient shipwreck

Buried underwater for 150 years, one of the largest and best-preserved wooden shipwrecks in China has been hoisted out near Shanghai's Hengsha Island.

It was a merchant vessel during the reign of Emperor Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It had 31 cabins and was loaded with many exquisite cultural relics.

The ship will soon be transferred to a dock near the Huangpu River for further preservation and archaeological research.

Wonderful winter graces Mongolia

It's that time of year and the views are breathtaking on the banks of the Ganhe River in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

A fairyland in winter, make no mistake.

World's largest wind turbine

This 16-megawatt offshore wind turbine is the biggest in the world and has just rolled off the production line in southeast China's Fujian Province.

The turbine has a wheel hub standing at 146 meters high with the diameter of the impeller reaching 252 meters. It can also sweep an area of about 50,000 square meters - equivalent to seven football pitches.

OAP Skateboarder!

And last but not least. Here's a grandpa doing what he loves best. His family tell him it's too dangerous, but this 84-year-old from Chengdu just adores his skateboarding.
