The world's most famous street artist Banksy has unveiled his latest piece of work, this time choosing a very special location to showcase his signature graffiti style: war-torn Ukraine.

Banksy posted a photo of the mural - a girl gymnast performing a handstand on a small pile of concrete rubble - on Instagram late on Friday.

The work was painted onto the wall of a building destroyed by shelling in the Ukrainian town of Borodyanka, which had been occupied by Russia until April and heavily damaged by fighting in the early days of Moscow's attack.

At least one other piece of new graffiti in the street artist's style has appeared in the town - a man dressed in a judo costume being flipped by a child - although Banksy is yet to confirm that it was done by his hand.

It's thought that the judo graffiti is alluding to Russian President Vladimir Putin's much-publicized love of the martial art, as well as the triumph of the underdog over a seemingly much stronger enemy.

Another potential Banksy piece - a girl flying a streamer - was spotted in the Ukrainian town of Irpin. Several onlookers came to see the artworks in Borodyanka, reveling in the fact the notorious artist had graced the battle-scarred town with his work.

"This is such a historic moment for our country, that people like Banksy and other famous figures are coming here and showing the world what Russia has done to us," said a visiting Kyivan, 31-year-old Alina Mazur.
