There are only around 300 Sumatran tigers left in the wild and are listed as a critically endangered species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. So the sound of three new cubs roaring across London Zoo is an incredibly positive sign for animal welfare.

The triplets were born in June and the ZSL London Zoo revealed their names on Thursday. Please welcome Inca, Zac and Crispin.

The names were decided by ZSL supporters after winning the chance to choose them in a charity auction.

ZSL London Zoo tiger keeper Martin O'Sullivan said: "Inca, Zac and Crispin are great names for these feisty cubs – now four-months-old and growing fast.

"We can tell the trio apart by the stripe patterns on their faces, which are unique to every tiger - we're delighted that all three have now been officially named.”

Female Inca and males Zac and Crispin are part of a global conservation effort to protect their species through a collaborative European breeding program that is being organised by zoos and enclosures across the continent.
