Russia rapidly withdrew its troops from the strategically important town in Donetsk at the start of October in a move seen as a big setback for Moscow's campaign in the east.
It even prompted the Chechen leader and Kremlin ally Ramzan Kadyrov to urge Russia to change strategy.
Lyman had been used as a logistics hub by the Russians, making its recapture all the more significant to Ukrainian forces.
And what's left is an incredible array of military equipment unlikely to be used in action ever again.
