Italy has now voted in its most right-wing government since the Second World War. Giorgia Meloni will be the country's first female Prime Minister, and claims she will govern "for all Italy". But what does that really mean for the country's faltering economy? She also wants a more political and less bureaucratic European Union, but what exactly does that look like?
Her victory also comes after strong showings for the likes of the Sweden Democrats and France's Front National - so what's behind the surge in right-wing populism across Europe?
Joining Juliet Mann on this episode of The Agenda to answer those and many other questions are Cecilia Emma Sottilotta International Relations and Global Politics at the American University of Rome and Lorenzo Codogno, Former Chief Economist at the Italian Treasury.
During the campaign, Meloni also said she had "no political will to favour Chinese expansion into Italy or Europe", so joining Juliet to consider whether that was anything more than electioneering rhetoric is Michele Geraci, China Expert & Former Undersecretary of State at the Italian ministry for economic development.
