· Ukraine said it had encircled thousands of Russian troops around the eastern town of Lyman, in a battlefield rebuttal to the Kremlin a day after it proclaimed the Donetsk region to be part of Russia.
· At least 30 civilians were killed and almost 100 wounded in what Kyiv said was a Russian missile strike on a convoy of civilian cars in southern Ukraine.
· Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the country was formally applying for fast-track membership of the NATO military alliance and that Kyiv was ready for talks with Moscow, but not while Putin was president.
