As students across the northern hemisphere head back to school after their summer break, or prepare to start university, in this episode of The Agenda, Juliet Mann explores the future of education.
Penny Van Bergen, Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Wollongong, joins her to consider whether the world's universities do enough to prepare students for the world of work. A recent survey suggests 90 percent think they do, but only 11 percent of business owners agree.
But it seems the current cohort of students may though have bigger worries than whether they're ready to join the workforce. UNICEF estimates they've missed out on 2 trillion hours of face-to-face teaching thanks to the pandemic. Edward Ma, Secretary-General of the Yidan Prize Foundation explains what his organization is doing to help make up for lost time.
And we also get the view from China with Shiny Wang Shi, Vice-Principal of Tsinghua University High School, who tells us about the impact of the recent crackdown on crammer schools has had on Chinese pupils wellbeing.
